With Project Hopeful – Four generations, in the village of Santiago Zamora, Guatemala

Project Hopeful, Walk On Water Initiative – Antigua Guatemala

3/2/2015 On a medical visit with Jaco ….
In the village Santiago Zamora, I walked with Dr. Jacobo Gutierrez (Staff physician for Project Hopeful, Walk On Water Initiative) to see 86 year old Hermenia. Dr.Jacobo Gutierrez is better known as Jaco to those he looks in on as he goes about his daily work. Hermenia is a precious Guatemalan lady who has difficulty walking due to a crippling leg issue that Jaco has stopped to check on today. Hermenia smiled and nodded her approval in reponse to my request for a photograph. After the photo, I discussed the beautiful weaving that her daughter Isabelle was doing on the front porch during our visit. It turns out that Isabelle and her mother Hermenia have never had a photograph taken of themselves together. I quickly put and end to this travesty by shooting the photographs you see here, after which we assembled Hermenia’s granddaughter Rosie and great granddaughter Darissa for a four generation photograph. Before leaving I had the privilege of making the acquaintance of Chevo, Hermenia’s husband of 67 years. He still weaves cane into intricate patterns that I think are amazing. I asked Chevo what the secret was to 67 years of marriage to which he just smiled and nodded to his sweet wife Hermenia.
