Life in The Fairmount – Our Porchtrait Project

Meet the Eiland’s over in the 1600 block of College Avenue!

Cliff & Allison Eiland

2 year old Flint

3 month old Talon

When the Eiland’s moved in a few doors down from me in the 1600 block of College Ave it was little 2 year old Flint’s wave and smile that first captured my heart! Every morning when i biked to the gym, Flint made my day! I was so excited when his mom Allison asked for a Porchtrait!

❤️❤️❤️

When I asked Allison my Porchtrait Project question’s about life during Shelter In Place, here is what she had to say….

What’s been the most difficult thing for you about shelter in place/social distancing?

Not being able to spend time with family and friends, and not having help with the kiddos!

What do you miss the most during Shelter in Place?

See above. (SEND HELP!!!)

What do you look forward to the most?

Spending lots of time with family and friends, play dates for the kids, and hopefully seeing Americans gain a new appreciation for the slower pace of life being forced on us right now —- maybe we can curb some of our workaholic and materialistic culture

How long have you lived in the Fairmount?

We moved here just over two years ago (2 months before Flint was born), and Cliff lived here for a little while about 8 years ago

Share your favorite thing about living in the Fairmount?

The beautiful old homes, friendly and diverse neighbors, and the proximity to the thriving small business enclaves of Magnolia and South Main

What is your favorite business in the Fairmount?

Does Bearded Lady count now that it is in SoMa? It’s just the perfect spot for a comfortable meal or drink (or two) with friends, both the current and original Magnolia locations. If Bearded Lady doesn’t count, then it probably is a toss up between Poke-Poke and Paul’s

What kind of work do you do?

Allison is a ‘retired’ accountant, but has by far the hardest job of the two of us now as a full time stay at home mom. Cliff is a Program Manager at American Airlines

I have photographed in over 40 countries during the last five years, telling the stories of people who are making a difference in the lives of orphans, vulnerable children and people in poverty.
