Photographing on a 26,467 mile journey through India, Nepal, Bali, Singapore, and Thailand.
Like a lot of young men Sathish‘s age, he had never tied a tie. Sathish had always remembered a photograph of me tying my son Matthew’s tie on his wedding day, now Sathish wanted this same moment with me. Today it was such an honor to have this experience together. We both teared up a bit, just as we did the day we met, nine years ago at the gate of the Compassion after school program.
I am so proud of Sathish and the man that he has become, the education he has accomplished and the career he now has as a business analyst. I am so grateful for the role he has allowed me to play in his life since we met nine years ago. I am grateful that he calls me Dad.
Every Indian wedding reflects the culture of the country, which means, attending a wedding in India is like exploring a part of the country. From traditional food to attires to rituals, an Indian wedding is something that you savor in every sense of the word.
My 63-year-old body was a bit challenged to attend a reception that lasted into the night, only to be woken at 4 a.m. to don my formal Indian attire for the main wedding ceremony that started at 6 a.m. It was with great enthusiasm that I dressed in the Kurt (think long shirt) that Sathish had gifted me when we met 9 years ago. The Dhoti that I wore was from my trip to India in 2018. It was very special to wear them both today.
