Getting to Know Hawassa – Capturing Grace in Ethiopia for Hawassa Hope

Day One, Getting to Know Hawassa – Capturing Grace in Ethiopia for Hawassa Hope

On our first day in Hawassa our team experienced the fish market, fresh raw tilapia with ground peppers, delicius sambusa’s filled with potato and peppers and being chased by a hippo on lake Hawassa. These creatures are very FAST for being so large. As alway’s, it was the Ethiopian hospitality that was most memorable.

Hawassa, is a city in the Great Rift Valley of central Ethiopia. It lies at theeastern edge of large Lake Awasa, with its resident hippos. Water birds gather around a popular fish market along the lake’s shore. Every morning the fishermen arrive with their wooden rowing boats loaded with tilapia and other varieties of fish.

These photographs tell the story of our first day in Hawassa.
